  1. Cellini Furniture Shop

Cellini Furniture Shop Malaysia

Founded in Singapore, Cellini Furniture Shop was established in 1986 by Tan Cheng Whatt, and has now opened it’s doors in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

Price Range: They don’t seem to have individual item prices readily available on their Cellini online furniture website, but from their overhead banners, they seem to be in the Mid to High range for pricing. The only obvious mention of delivery charges on their website is that they provide free shipping within Klang Valley for purchases above RM1000, otherwise it’s RM120 delivery charges, RM200 delivery for weekdays, with additional charges for places with limited accessibility or no lift access.

Design: A quick scroll through their furniture online catalogue suggests a good mix of modern and classic designs, with a few designs that seem to fuse classic design quite effortlessly with modern technology and convenience.

Convenience: It would seem that they don’t currently have an online shopping feature implemented – their online furniture website is more of a digital showroom, which is nice, but means you’d have to go to one of their physical stores to make a purchase. They have several offline furniture shop, namely in KL/Selangor, Johor, and Penang.

Customer Service: Logging on to their Cellini website immediately prompts an invitation for scheduling a callback via phone or even a WhatsApp video call for them to help answer all your burning questions about furniture. They also have an e-mail you can reach out to, but don’t appear to have any on-site live chat functions that don’t need 3rd party software.

Miscellaneous: They do have helpful articles on their Cellini website about furniture and interior decorating, though they don’t seem to have any immediately available information about their warranty policies.

  1. Rozel Furniture Stores

Rozel Furniture Stores Malaysia

A well-known and reputable furniture brand in Malaysia, Rozel prides themselves on developing comfortable, quality, trendy and modern furniture to meet the needs of their customers.

Price Range: There’s no indication of prices on Rozel’s online furniture website, though from the design and quality of the items I would think they’re in the mid-high range. Their online furniture website has a shopping cart feature, but no way to add anything to it, so it’s possible they’re still developing their e-commerce platform.

Design: A lot of Rozel’s furniture seems to focus largely on class and elegance, with a good blend of modern, minimalist style and retro/classic design. Their furniture mostly features sleek lines and muted, neutral colours, with a few brighter pops here and there.

Convenience: With no online shopping option seemingly available (unless I missed something) and their online website seeming to serve as a digital showroom, Rozel is limited to it’s offline furniture stores, though that’s hardly a disadvantage. With furniture showrooms in KL/Selangor, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, and Perak – Rozel is the most widespread top furniture company in Malaysia on this list.

Customer Service: They do have an e-mail function available directly from their website, as well as Facebook and Instagram pages, and a direct landline that can be called for inquiries.

Benefits: There is, unfortunately, no warranty information readily available on their website, but they do have a very cool 3D online furniture showroom function that allows you to explore their TTDI and Permas Jaya showrooms from the comfort of your own home, and I spent more time doing this than I care to admit.

  1. Ashley Homestore

Ashley Homestore Malaysia

Originally an American Company – Ashley HomeStore is now licensed by Hauslife Furniture Sdn Bhd, which was founded in December 2014.

Price Range: Ashley’s prices range on the higher end of the spectrum, with some sofas on their online furniture website listed for a price of up to RM10,000! Their delivery charges vary by location. Ashley HomeStore has a number of offline furniture showrooms across Malaysia, and delivery in those areas is considerably lower – however for deliveries outside of those areas, delivery charges can skyrocket based on the size and wright of items purchased.

Design: Ashley HomeStore features a good mix of classic and modern  furniture designs, and from the look of their Ashley’s website, appear to use very high quality materials and show spectacular workmanship – which would explain (and justify) their slightly steeper price point.

Convenience: As I’ve already touched on briefly, they have several offline furniture showrooms in Malaysia – currently in Selangor/KL, Penang, and Johor. So if you’re the type that wants to feel the item before buying it – you can.

Customer Service: They seem to have 2 customer service avenues immediately available – which are their Facebook Page and WhatsApp contact number. They don’t have a Live Chat function immediately available on their website, so you would need a third party app would provide information like your name and phone number in order to contact their customer service.

Miscellaneous: Warranty information is readily available on their online furniture website – though it seems they only give a full warranty for up to 1 year. All the terms and conditions are pretty clearly laid out and should be read through before purchasing, especially as they’ve got quite a high price point on their items.

  1. Furniture Direct

Furniture Direct Malaysia

There’s not a lot of information about when Furniture Direct was established, but they pride themselves on being 100% online direct-to-consumer purchases.

Price Range: Low – Mid Range prices. Furniture Direct is able to keep their prices low and affordable because they cut out a lot of overhead by not having any retail furniture stores Malaysia. They give a best price guarantee on their online furniture website, and taking a look through their products, it seems more than believable. Their delivery charges vary by location, and it seems they’re based out of Johor.

Design: Furniture Direct has very helpfully categorised their products by design and style. This is something that few furniture websites seem to be doing. They boast several different types of furniture styles. By their own proclamation: Scandinavian, Contemporary, Industrial, Zen, Colonial, Retro, and Traditional design. I don’t know what a lot of those words mean, but boy, it’s exciting that I would be able to say for sure that my sofa was a Colonial Design Sofa.

Convenience: Furniture Direct is 100% online furniture Malaysia. They don’t have a retail furniture store Malaysia, so if you’re the type that likes to test furniture before buying it, then this store probably isn’t for you.

Customer Service: A look at their website shows that they only seem to have WhatsApp channels available for customer service.

Miscellaneous: Some of their sofas show warranty information, and some don’t. There seems to be no warranty information on the website, but they do have a 14 day return policy.

  1. IKEA Furniture Shop Malaysia

IKEA Furniture Shop Malaysia

I think we all know what Ikea is. Though we as Malaysians who are so focused on food may have forgotten – Ikea is famous for far more than just it’s delicious Swedish meatballs.

Price Range: Mid – High Range. For the fact that lot of Ikea’s furniture requires self-assembly, their prices are a bit on the higher end. Their delivery charges range from RM25 for small packages all the way up to RM298 for big ticket items. There are additional delivery charges for locations with no lift access or limited accessibility.

Design: Obviously, being a Swedish based company, Ikea embraces the minimalist simplicity of Scandinavian design, featuring functional, convenient, and modern furniture that is designed to maximise efficiency in the smallest of spaces.

Convenience: Online furniture shopping is available on the Ikea official website, and they have 4 offline furnitre stores Malaysia listed on their website, namely in Selangor, Penang, and Johor.

Customer Service: They have a direct landline, an e-mail, and social media pages, but no direct live chat function available from their website. That being said, they also have a pretty extensive FAQ page on their website that’s reasonably helpful.

Miscellaneous: Ikea offers a 365-day return policy – which is generous to say the least, but is subject to terms and conditions, the most important being that the returned item must be in re-sellable condition as determined by Ikea themselves. They have no visible warranty information to speak of. Do also take note that Ikea can turn out to be a lifelong commitment. Ikea Mattresses don’t follow standard Malaysian mattress sizes – they’re actually longer. So if you buy a mattress from Ikea, your bedframe is also going to have to come from Ikea, whether they have one you like or not. That being said, Ikea has a LOT of choice, so you’re probably going to find something you like regardless.

  1. LAVINO Furniture Malaysia (RECOMMENDED)

LAVINO Furniture Stores Malaysia

Established as a small furniture store in Kelantan over 20 years ago, Lavino has now branched out and has several outlets across the country.

Price Range: Low to Mid-range. Lavino offers pretty reasonable prices for their sofas, plus their Lazada online store actually offers free delivery for any purchase above RM200 to all of West Malaysia. Their online furniture website delivery charges are a standard RM50 within Klang Valley (free for purchases above RM1000) and RM100 outside of it. Their online store being based largely on the Lazada platform, they’re frequently having sales, promotions, and additional vouchers to give you even cheaper prices.

Design: It seems that most of their designs embrace the Scandinavian Style of simplicity and minimalism. Their sofas are mostly a dark or muted grey, with the occasional bright blue and purple. But a look at their website shows they have some classic sofa styles too, so if you prefer the old-fashioned stuff, they’ve got it.

Convenience: Lavino is very convenient to buy from. Their online website has multiple payment options available. For products also available on Lazada, their website links to each specific product page so you can purchase directly from there. I’m unclear as to why they don’t make all their products available on Lazada, and there seems to be no explanation for this on their site.

They also have several LAVINO furniture showrooms across Malaysia, in Selangor, Penang, Perak, Terengganu, and Kelantan. Googling the store also brings up locations in Johor and Sabah, but those aren’t listed on the official website, so they either may not be affiliated (a look at their Facebook page tells me they’re no longer affiliated with their Johor Jaya branch), or they are no longer in operation.

Customer Service: Being on Lazada, they do have a Live Chat function available which boasts a 95% response rate within 1 hour, as well as an 89% positive seller rating – but being an outlier in a list of many furniture stores Malaysia, they actually also have a Live Chat option on their website as well, though on and off, it shows they’re offline, even during standard working hours. They have a phone number that can be reached via phone call or WhatsApp, and several active/semi-active Facebook pages, both for their online store and their offline showrooms.

Miscellaneous: Because they’re on Lazada, their product and seller reviews are public and can’t be hidden – whether they’re good or bad, so you can really get an honest idea of what the consumers think of their products (and their customer service), and not just what the company wants you to think. Warranty information is readily available on each individual product. It seems that sofas on average have a warranty of 5 years, sofa beds have a warranty of 1 year, and mattresses have warranties of around 10 years on average, depending on the type. A look at their website promises a minimum warranty of 3 months, and all their warranty information is accessible and available on their website. They also seem to implement a 14-day Satisfaction Guarantee Free Return policy, and their website features a number of helpful (and amusing) articles under the “Shopping Tips” section, in case you need some enlightening on how to choose a mattress or furnish a small space.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, I do personally recommend LAVINO as they seem to have a slight edge on these other stores – but maybe it’s because they’re just better at making their information so readily available to consumers through their website and Lazada pages, and as we all know, knowledge and information is power indeed. So in these more modern times as things progressively move online, maybe it pays to be transparent with the essential info that customers are looking for.
